* MARINE - Black Knight counterpart of Marine the Raccoon, 11 or 12 years old here (slightly older than her "prime" counterpart). She speaks in a strange, pseudo-Australian accent. Six years before the events of the game, she was found by Sir Lancelot and Sir Galahad on a quest to investigate disturbances in a neighboring kingdom, an orphan of raiders that destroyed her hometown and killed her family. With no living relatives to be found, she was taken back to Camelot with the two knights and put up for adoption. Merlina, both in need of an apprentice of her own and sensing the girl's inate love of water, agreed under oath to adopt her as apprentice and daughter, training her to succeed in her position as she had succeeded Merlin not long before. As Merlina's apprentice, she specialized in the magic of water and learned the arts involving its use, including hydrokinesis, magical freezing and boiling of water and localized weather control. She had also learned basic magics of other elements and magical attacks (including low-range teleportation and shielding spells) during this time.

Marine proved to be an apt and obediant student, but Merlina nevertheless feared for Marine's safety after the illusionary King Arthur had taken the scabbard of Excalibur, and therefore sent the apprentice away from Camelot. Completely unaware of the conspiracy of her mistress, Marine was brought back to Camelot after Sir Sonic had killed the illusion king and taken the scabbard from him. Marine was in Camelot during Merlina's takeover attempt and fled underground with many of Camelot's residents during that disaster. Trapped by stone rubble, she tried using her magic spells to free herself and a group of former Camelot residents, which fails until Sir Gawain breaks through from the other side to lead more people in. Gawain, suspecting Marine was in collusion with her mistress, interrogates her unsuccessfully about where Merlina went and then brings her to the new king, Sir Sonic.

King Sonic, upon Marine's arrival and explanation of her presence in Camelot, immediately released her from Sir Gawain's custody and tells her of the conspiracy of Merlina that had resulted in King Arthur's death, his rise to the kingship and Merlina's exile. The king then appointed her as Royal Wizardess in Merlina's place and gave her Merlina's staff, which had been taken upon the exile of her mistress. Marine then became part of the king's improvised council during the move of the royal residence to Avalon and establishment of the king's authority throughout the kingdom.

After the establishment of the king's authority, Marine came under increasing pressure by those who assumed that she carried the moral taint of her mistress. She became caught up in a conspiracy lead by Sir Gawain to replace her with the Lady of the Lake or kill her and thus destroy what was left of Merlin's legacy to the kingdom. This conspiracy was foiled by the king, who sent Sir Gawain away from Avalon and ended the immediate threat to her life. Nevertheless, the fear of inadequacy, resulting from the combination of overly-high expectations of her abilities and the "broken pedestal" of her mistress, continued to plague her efforts to serve the kingdom.

--------------------------------------

* VANILLA - Black Knight counterpart of Vanilla the Rabbit. She had been King Arthur's personal maidservant, but after the corruption of the king she and her daughter retreated into the underground complex below Camelot for their own safety. They stayed there until Merlina appeared to them and told them that Arthur was dead and soon all would be put right; Merlina had planned to summon them back above after establishing control over Camelot, but never got the chance to do so before her conspiracy was defeated. Sir Lancelot eventually found them during his searches of the underground tunnels and explained what had happened above, then escorted them back to the new king, King Sonic. After King Sonic had been introduced to Vanilla and her daughter, she was allowed to resume her previous duties as the king's maidservant, and has remained in this position through and beyond the establishment of the king's reign.

--------------------------------------

* CREAM - Black Knight counterpart of Cream the Rabbit. Like her "prime" counterpart, she is Vanilla's daughter and stayed with her mom during the latter's hiding in the underground tunnels below Camelot Castle after King Arthur's corruption. After the defeat of Merlina's conspiracy, Cream was introduced to King Sonic the same time as her mom and traveled with her to Avalon. (Note that, like the Tails counterpart in Black Knight, she cannot fly at all and is assumed to have no special abilities.)

--------------------------------------

* "CHEESE" - Black Knight counterpart of Cheese the Chao, though everyone just refers to it as "Cream's pet" and has no proper name. It also lacks the bowtie of the "prime" counterpart and thus looks like an ordinary Chao, though CAN fly like the prime counterpart. In the Black Knight world, "Cheese" (as King Sonic mentally calls him) was a water spirit summoned by Merlina to be Marine's "familiar", or spirit companion, during Marine's birthday. However, the creature took an immediate dislike to the apprentice and instead formed a bond with the young servant girl Cream, who adopted him as a pet as a result. "Cheese" stayed with Cream from that point on, and subsequently met King Sonic along with Cream and her mom, taking an immediate liking to the king.

"Cheese" had also (unsurprisingly) been a sticking point between Cream and Marine until the trauma of Merlina's conspiracy and exile allowed the two girls to reconcile. The exact extent of his powers as a water spirit is unknown, but it is presumed to be localized and low strength.

--------------------------------------

* FLEET CAPTAIN EGLAIS - Black Knight counterpart of Dr. Eggman. Nominally commander of the navy of King Arthur's domains, that king's lack of concern about naval affairs allowed the Fleet Captain to rule over the Royal Dockyards and surrounding area as his own personal domain. He had begun to drift looser from King Arthur after the king's corruption, but did not declare formal independance and pledged his loyalty to King Sonic when he arrived with the displaced survivors of the Camelot disaster. His fleet escorted the king and survivors to Avalon, then returned to the Royal Dockyards to rework the fleet, with assistance of Sir Lancelot, into a ferrying service that would allow the king to maintain lines of communication open with the rest of the kingdom.

--------------------------------------

* QUEEN GUENIEVRE - Former wife of King Arthur, she went "missing in action" during the Camelot disaster and was later presumed dead. Her jewels were later recovered from the ruins of Camelot and brought to Avalon, where they were given to Lady Percival by King Sonic as a proposal of marriage. She has no direct "prime universe" counterpart.

--------------------------------------

* SIR PELLINORE - Father of Lady Percival and Sir Lamorak, each in a seperate affair. He had been a Knight of the Round Table and a good friend of King Arthur. He died about a year before the events of the game as the result of a plague that swept through Camelot. He had broken gender barriers in training Lady Percival for knighthood, and considered her knighting one of the proudest moments of his life. His medallion (roughly star-shaped with a "P" in the middle) is worn by Lady Percival as a memento of her father, and Sir Lamorak supposedly wears a similar medallion as well. Pellinore has no direct "prime" counterpart, but based on Percival's comments to King Sonic describing him (in Part 6), it can be presumed he is a blue, griffin-like "Mobian".

--------------------------------------

* LADY ELAINE OF CORBENIC - Black Knight counterpart of Rouge the Bat. Daughter of the Keeper of the Holy Grail, she had an affair with Sir Lancelot that resulted in a "marriage of honor" and eventually a boy child, Sir Galahad. She died in the same plague that killed Sir Pellinore.

* ??? - (To be added later...)
I've debated about putting this up on here, but with so many new characters in this version of the Black Knight storybook universe I figured it was worthwhile because:

A. It makes it easier to keep track of all those new characters.
B. It outlines some things that won't come out of the story by necessity but are important in clarifying it (particularly the Marine entry, which specifically outlines what powers she had learned).

You may not get anything out of it, but it adds depth and texture to the story, so up it will go. :)

NOTE: THIS IS NOT THE FINAL VERSION OF THE LIST. All canon characters have been excluded from the list (SO DON'T ASK FOR THEM!) as have all "bit-part" OCs, and not all major OCs have been introduced in the story yet. This entry will be updated as the new characters are introduced.
